St George's College Results August 2017

ADVANCED LEVEL AND GCSE EXAMINATIONS RESULTS

A LEVEL

This summer, twenty three students gained straight A*/A grades for all of their subjects at A Level, including four who achieved four A Levels all at A*/A. One student gained an outstanding set of five A*s and will be proceeding to Stanford University, USA. Our top 25% of candidates gained the equivalent of three A*s at A Level. We pride ourselves in encouraging students to develop their personal best in a plethora of fields and this year we saw successes in students gaining places at Oxbridge to study courses including Law and History, Medicine at Glasgow, Art at prestigious art colleges, one student gaining an apprenticeship with Dyson funding his Engineering degree course and one student being offered two Music scholarships.

In addition, nine students took the full Maths A Level in the Lower Sixth, achieving A*/A grades.

In common with many schools in our peer group, results in 2017 were slightly lower than in previous years at A Level. However, this did not affect university outcomes and numbers going on to Russell Group universities remain consistently high. Nevertheless, we are not complacent, and are confident that results in 2018 will be of the same calibre as the fantastic GCSE outcomes below.

GCSE

This year we celebrated our best ever set of results. 45% of grades were A* - an improvement on last year’s 40%. 45 pupils achieved straight A*-A Grades including at least 18 with 10 A* Grades, four with 11 A*s and twins with 12 straight A* grades. 74% of our most able Mathematicians gained A* in Further Maths GCSE. Five students sat GCSEs in the following extra-curricular languages: Chinese, Greek and Turkish, gaining a total of 4 A*s and 1 A grade.

All of our Fourth Year pupils took Religious Studies a year early with 88% achieving A*-B grades. The whole Year group also sat the IGCSE English Language a year early, with 85% gaining A*-B grades. Of the 19 pupils who took French a year early, 95% achieved A*. In addition to this, three students sat GCSEs in other languages, with A*s in Chinese and Turkish and an A in Dutch.

Four of our Third Year students took some modern languages early: German, French and Italian GCSEs, all achieving A*s and one Second Year student took Chinese GCSE, gaining a B grade.
